Theory of Change
Wild DAO's theory of change is a framework that outlines the specific steps or actions we believe are necessary to achieve environmental impact.
Goals
Goal 1: Provide an additional stream of income to biodiversity conservation organizations.
Goal 2: Gamify conservation to promote biodiversity conservation in a fun, engaging way, providing an effective method for learning.
Goal 3: Improve transparency for donors by providing clear and accurate information about how their funding is being utilized by biodiversity conservation organizations.
Outcomes
Outcomes are the specific and measurable changes that Wildchain hopes to achieve as a result of our work.
Outcome 1: Increased income for biodiversity conservation organizations.
Outcome 2: Improved awareness of threats to wildlife and biodiversity in target groups.
Outcome 3: Clear and accurate data about how funding is being used by biodiversity conservation organizations.
Interventions
Interventions are the specific activities or programs that Wild DAO will undertake to achieve its desired outcomes.
Create a conservation game that raises awareness about threats to wildlife and channels all its profits to biodiversity conservation organizations.
Create a planet-positive NFT marketplace.
Create a transparent fundraising platform for biodiversity conservation organizations.
Assumptions
Assumptions are a list of underlying assumptions about the environment, resources, and conditions necessary for the interventions to succeed.
Learn about why we want to engage a new generation of donors.
By making giving fun, transparent, and engaging, we can increase funding for biodiversity conservation organizations by implementing the following strategies:
Transparency: Wild DAO will increase transparency by providing clear information about the organization’s impact. This can help prospective donors feel confident that their donations are to be used effectively and for intended purposes.
Engagement: Wild DAO will help charities engage with donors by involving them in in-game events that demonstrate the impact of their support.
Recognition: Players will be recognized and thanked through special impact badges, thank you letters, or other communications on our collective impact.
Impact stories: Wild DAO will help charities share impact stories that illustrate the impact their work is generating, highlighting the personal stories of communities and success stories of wildlife they are helping.
Increased funding for biodiversity conservation organizations can lead to several positive outcomes, including:
Expanded conservation efforts: With more funding, organizations can launch new conservation initiatives, increase their scope of work, and implement more effective measures to protect biodiversity.
Enhanced research and monitoring: Increased funding can support research and monitoring activities, which are crucial for understanding the state of biodiversity and identifying effective conservation strategies.
Protected areas: More funding can enable organizations to create and manage new protected areas, as well as expand and improve existing ones, to conserve biodiversity better.
Community engagement: Increased funding can support the engagement of local communities in conservation efforts, ensuring their needs and interests are considered and that they are active partners in conservation.
Increased public awareness: With more funding, organizations can invest in education and outreach activities to raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the threats it faces, inspiring action for its conservation.
Indicators
Indicators are the specific measures that Wildchain will use to track its progress toward its desired outcomes and evaluate its interventions' effectiveness.
Wildchain’s impact dashboard is a tool used to measure and track the environmental impact of Wildchain and its conservation projects on Wildfund. It displays key impact indicators (KIIs) and metrics related to:
Indicator 1: Funds raised
This measures the amount of money raised by Wildchain through game profits, NFT marketplace profits, NFT trading royalties and other fundraising efforts. This can include indicators such as the total amount of funds raised, the number of donations received, the average donation size, and the cost of fundraising per dollar raised.
Indicator 2: Reforestation/Afforestation
This measures the number of trees planted, the species of trees planted, the survival rate of planted trees, and the overall impact of tree planting on the ecosystem and wildlife habitat. This can include indicators such as the number of trees planted per acre, the survival rate of planted trees, and the number of different species of trees planted.
Indicator 3: Population sizes of specific species in an area
This measures the number of individuals in specific (keystone) species or populations. This can be used to track population growth or decline and monitor the effectiveness of conservation efforts.
Indicator 4: Habitat quality
This measures the health and condition of the habitat for a specific species. This can include indicators such as water quality, vegetation cover, and soil health.
Indicator 5: Biodiversity
This measures the number of different species and the overall health of an ecosystem. This can include indicators such as the number of different bird species, the number of different plant species, and the number of different insect species.
Indicator 6: Community engagement
This measures the involvement of local communities in conservation efforts. This can include indicators such as the number of people participating in conservation activities, the number of people trained in conservation techniques, and the number of people employed in conservation-related jobs.
Evidence
Evidence is the data that Wild DAO will collect to support our assumptions and indicators and to demonstrate the impact of our work.
Wild DAO will request a variety of data from grant recipients to demonstrate the impact of their work, including:
Population surveys
Habitat assessments
Biodiversity measurements
Photographs/satellite images of reforestation projects
In addition, grant recipients may collect social and economic data to show the benefits of wildlife conservation to local communities and broader society.
